Vizzola sits right at the edge of the wide Po valley, where the flat plains slowly give way to the first hills of the Apennines. At its heart stands the medieval Chiesa San Giovanni Battista — a simple Romanesque stone church with an attached rectory (canonica). That's where the priest used to live. It’s not grand or polished, but it’s solid, quiet, and very much part of the landscape. Fields in front. Hills behind. The neighbors: a farm, a cemetery, a vineyard.
If you're staying at the main house: please bring a sleeping bag or silk liner as it will drastically reduce the amount of laundry we’ll need to wash at the end. Thanks!
Pick your own rooms and beds when you arrive.
The house is not really accessible by public transport. There is a train station about 5 - 10 min drive from the house in Fornovo and a bus stop with connections to Parma as well as Fornovo down by the main road. From the bus stop, it's about 1 km uphill to the house. It is convenient to have a few cars on site.
There's a big supermarket (Conad Superstore) down by the main road/bus stop and it's open daily (including Sundays) from 8am to 8pm.
There is no WiFi.
Please download the App «Splid» on your phone - we’ll be using that to keep track of the shared expenses for food and drinks on site.
NEW: I am asking each guest to make a contribution of between €25 - €50 (depending on your budget) to pay for the cleaning before and after our stay. Thank you!
When making a fire in the garden: please lift the fire bowl from the ground using a couple of bricks, so it won’t leave a mark in the grass.
Recycling is a bit complicated, please help separating the trash - otherwise someone else will have to do it for you:
Glass goes by the entrance
Yellow bin in hallway: recycling for plastics and metal, including plastic bottles, packaging, yoghurt cups without the cardboard
Blue bin in the hallway: paper and cardboard
Compost goes in the garden in the corner by the green shed
Mixed trash in the kitchen (indifferenziato): only what doesn’t fit anywhere else
Please empty your room’s trash bin into the respective recycling bins when you leave
